Tips from An Emmy Winner

November 9, 2017

It’s not every day you get to sit down with an Emmy winning videographer and have a chat. But lucky for us, we happen to know one of the most humble and hardworking videographers in the biz, Mr. Jake Loskutoff, and he agreed to sit down with us on this episode of #sheraves.

Here are a few gems we took from our conversation:

Be Ready for Anything.

“You don’t know what’s going to come your way, so instead of losing your mind and the whole team goes downhill, I’m used to now losing my mind internally and then figuring out how to fix it.”

For those of you just starting out…

“Get your hands on equipment. If you wanna be a shooter, get your hands on a camera. If you wanna be an editor, jump in the Bay. You need to experience (using a camera) to find out your groove. So if you can experience it on a phone, that’s a good way to do it because then you’re not (starting on) an $8000 camera.”

Best advice Jake has learned so far…

“What I’ve learned from the celebrities and athletes is they focus in on the one thing they know is gonna be great and that’s their only focus.”

How to stay creative:

“Challenge yourself.”

How to stay positive:

“First and foremost, it’s awesome to have your job be that you’re directing video content and content is stuff that I love… When I’m out there it’s stuff that I love it’s people I love working with and you’re not doing brain surgery, you’re producing content. I think of that everyday. It’s fun stuff that’s entertainment for people, it shouldn’t be a stress. Yes, there will be stressful moments, but deal with it.”
